DAVID BYRNE
FEBRUARY 2009
David Byrne, former Talking Heads frontman, returned to Australia with a full band and dancers to “Burn Down The House” in February 2009. His extraordinary show, “Songs Of David Byrne And Brian Eno” gained stellar reviews from his six month world tour in the US and and in his national tour here in Australia.
Byrne’s new album ‘Everything That Happens Happens Today’, was released worldwide before the tour in November 2008. It is his first collaboration with long-time friend Brian Eno in 25 years. It continues the association began when Eno produced three classic Talking Heads albums and the ground-breaking solo record ‘My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts’ (1981).The partnership, which has produced much of Byrne’s best work, inspired the touring show.
Whilst Eno was absent physically, he was more than present spiritually as Byrne covered classic and current Byrne/Eno material. With a ten-piece band - five musicians, three backing singers and three dancers - all dressed in white, Byrne has raised the bar yet again in the marriage of music, art and theatre. Audiences all around Australia were thrilled, they danced in the aisles and gave many a standing ovation.
As part of his tour, David Byrne performed one very special show in Melbourne - a benefit for Challenge, supporting kids with cancer. All tickets were $75 with proceeds going to Challenge.
